I think this trailer gives too much away of the movie and especially by including the Mufasa's ghost scene, this shows well how they were very uncertain if anyone would want to see the film. The trailer just gives out that vibe, and especially if you know that the Mufasa's ghost part was the first point when they started to think the film might actually become something remarkable. They say so in the making-of featurettes. Also the background music sucks--not the Elton John bits but the instrumental. But that's a problem with many movie trailers usually, they just can't pick good background music. Well, at least this trailer gets the point through and gives an accurate image of the film's story, which can not be said about some movie trailers out there. I wish they'd remake this official trailer now that they know how great story it really is.

Agreed, that trailer gives too much of the story away, but I didn't mind the instrumental bits. But, even the 30-second trailers capture what the movie really is what the official trailer couldn't do in 3 minutes.
Such as the re-release trailer when it re-released in November 1994:
Hans Zimmer's "King of Pride Rock" score music just sends shivers up and down my spine, and makes the movie look like what it is: an EPIC! I just love it!
There is also the trailer for its inital home video release in March 1995, which I also love it:
