So it'll be released next month! What are your thoughts and feelings about this upcoming version?
After the movie is out, you can discuss it freely but if you post a spoiler remember to hide it with the spoiler button in the editor menu. (Located on the right side of that </> button.)
Personally I don't expect much at all because I've always thought it utterly unnescessary and I can't see how it could significantly improve on the original hand-drawn version. But I am still interested in seeing it in theatres, especially since as far as I'm aware Elton John has been part of the development this time around too. I haven't been interested enough to very acrively follow news about the development of this movie but Elton mentioned it as one of his current projects in a Rocketman interview. I'm eager to see if there'll be all new music or new versions of the ones we have in the original movie. Either way I'm very glad they're still including Elton John's music. It's pretty much synonymous to The Lion King, for me, because way back in the '90s I was introduced to Elton John through the movie and became a lifelong fan of his.
The longer trailer shows they have changed/added some new lines/stuff so there's hope it will be different enough even if it doesn't succeed to improve. My main concern is the fact that they made it photorealistic and the animals will move and look like real animals. It removes all possibility of emoting and interesting movement which was a big part of the entertainment in the original. I really don't think it was a good idea to photorealistic remake The Lion King. But then again, Disney's Homeward Bound movies are very good so I guess they could make it work.
All in all I'm worried but interested, and sure that there will be at least some aspects of the movie I will enjoy. I have plans to go see it in theaters with a friend of mine but I think I'll wait for a special day when the tickets are cheap. Because I'm sure the ticket prices will be sky high for this just as they were for the Jurassic Park, Star Wars and any other ultra popular franchise.
