The Lion King Survey
Postby SuperBabySimba » October 11th, 2010, 11:36 pm
I did not make up these questions. I found and directly translated these questions from this, already dead, Finnish TLK fan site.
These questions are only about the ORIGINAL The Lion King film, NOT of its sequels.
Your age?
1. How did you first get a contact with The Lion King?
2. Have you internalized anything from the characters, into your life?
3. Your favorite character?
4. Do you know who sings 'Can You Feel The Love Tonight'? (the original singer)
5. Can you compare yourself to the characters in the film?
6. Did you go see The Lion King when it first hit the theatres?
7. How has The Lion King influenced your life?
8. Have you heard that it's possible to make The Lion King 4?
9. Is The Lion King a children's film, in your opinion?
10. The best moment in The Lion King?
11. Do you own The Lion King merchandise, that you think is not-so-common stuff?
12. What is the topmost thing in your memory, from the film?
13. The best The Lion King movie?
14. Do you visit other The Lion King sites?
15. How many times did you watch The Lion King last year, (2009)?
16. How long have you bee a fan?
17. What would you want to change in the film's storyline?
18. Did Mufasa's death move you?
19. Could you call yourself an active fan, and why so?
20. Was Scar's fate justice, in your opinion? What punnishment would you have recommended?
MY ANSWERS:
Your age?
Near thirty.
1. How did you first get a contact with The Lion King?
I only remember that long before the first VHS release, I felt very excited and pointed at a huge outside advertidement, tugging my mom's sleeve, wanting her to buy the film for me. When it was released she bought it for mw as a gift that same year.
2. Have you internalized anything from the characters, into your life?
Not that I know of.
3. Your favorite character?
Simba.
4. Do you know who sings 'Can You Feel The Love Tonight'? (the original singer)
Of course. It was because of that song that I became a big fan of his, which I remain today.
5. Can you compare yourself to the characters in the film?
A bit weirdly put question. You can always compare yourself to anything. I believe this means if I can relate to the characters, and yes, to Simba.
6. Did you go see The Lion King when it first hit the theatres?
No. I most likely wanted to, but couldn't, due to lack of money. Hence, my answer to the first question.
7. How has The Lion King influenced your life?
Been a sunshine in my everyday life and a target of my creativity.
8. Have you heard that it's possible to make The Lion King 4?
Of course it's always possible, but I have not heard that they'd be intenting to.
9. Is The Lion King a children's film, in your opinion?
No. More like an ageless film, which is enjoyable and giving a lot to almost all age groups. Though I could imagine that teens and adults get more out of this than little children, who don't necessarely consciously think of the story's deeper messages and the full picture, which in my opinion is especially essential and intense part in The Lion King. Thus I wouldn't call this a children's film. But important for children to watch too, as this doe snot resurrect the dead (not really!), does not dress drama in pretty clothes, and does not make everything dark and evil a big joke.
10. The best moment in The Lion King?
I refuse to name just one. But some of the best are; Mufasa's spirit appearing all the way to when he's gone again. It's such a beautiful and touching moment after all that had happened. And, the moment when Scar advices Simba to run far away and never to return is one of the most powerful moments in the film. But only with the Finnish voice actor - I get chills every time. And a third almost as best, lighter moment, is the 'I Just Can't Wait To Be King' song's beginning half - from the beginning to when Simba and Nala rise the ostriches. Though more so with the Finnish lyrics.
11. Do you own The Lion King merchandise, that you think is not-so-common stuff?
No. Unless a decoration plate counts as such.
12. What is the topmost thing in your memory, from the film?
Mufasa's death. Especially as it happens in such a memoriable way and is shot in a close-up, plus Simba tries to wake him in vain, and doesn't seem to quite understand his Dad is dead until a good while after, if not even only when Scar says so.
13. The best The Lion King movie?
The first. TLK2 is ok but much lamer and more unoriginal. The third is a big joke, though partly brilliant and funny. But the original is the shining number one. It has depth, darkness, and light humour in a perfect mix, and it bases on Shakespeare's Hamlet, which fascinates me.
14. Do you visit other The Lion King sites?
Yes. on a Finnish TLK discussion forum, the TLK Fan Art Archive, and on my own RPG's forum.
15. How many times did you watch The Lion King last year?
Three, I think.
16. How long have you bee a fan?
Since the first VHS release, making it 16 years this year.
17. What would you want to change in the film's storyline?
I'd have liked to see Disney's version of my RPG's basic idea about Mufasa surviving the stampede with Simba, and Scar's evil schemes being revealed. But if the story went the way it does, I would not have had Simba and Nala fall in love during the film, even if they might in the future.[/i]
18. Did Mufasa's death move you?
>> Every time.
19. Could you call yourself an active fan, and why so?
These days, yes. There were many years I only watched the film from time to time and occationally discuseed it in the internet. 2,5 years ago I got active again, by making and publishing fan videos, and discussing more, and now I run the RPG, and have started to Photoshop and draw fan art. As a child, there was almost nothing but TLK in my world for a long, long time.
20. Was Scar's fate justice, in your opinion? What punnishment would you have recommended?
Of course it was. He'd murdered his brother, almost his nephew, destroyed the Prideland, condemned his followers - including the highenas - into starving to death, and didn't even consider doing better/fix things - but topped it all by betraying the hyenas in every possible way. What in the world would have been more justice than getting eaten by the hyenas.
