Sarabi--the queen of Pridelands, prince Simba's mother.
I think she's remarkably strong woman, as she was able to stand up to Scar and hold her head up high and hold on to some sort of hope / form plans even after all she'd been through with the loss of her beloved husband and son, and all those years of starvation and suffering during Scar's reign.
Though I know she was caring and loving mother, I have always raised and eye-brow at her line "It's not true. Tell me it's not true!" at Simba confessing he is responsible for Mufasa's death. Of course it could be that she wished it a lie so that Simba wouldn't really need to carry such guilt, but sometimes I thought that maybe she for that moment actually believed her son might be deliberately responsible for the death? o.O

I think that Disney underrated Sarabi heavily, mainly because of her absence from the second film. According to one of the writers, she was cut due to her lack of purpose to the storyline, whilst other sources claim her voice actress died a year after the film was released, so they wanted to respect her legacy by not having Sarabi speak.
In the original script for the first film, Sarabi is present during Simba's cub's presentation, meaning that she would be alive during the events of the second film, or at least, if it was implied that she died at all.
I personally believe that she lived to see her granddaughter grow up into a teen, and the two places where she appears is at the beginning of the film when Simba confronts Zira, and during Kovu's exile as she and other lionesses growl at Kovu.
