Kiara--Simba's first and only child, daughter is just like her Daddy used to be as a cub... except for one thing: she doesn't have an eager eye on the throne. She struggles between who she feels she is and what is expected of her, and wonders if the two aspects can both exist in one. This is caused partly by Simba's constant worry and slight over-protectiveness of her and her training to become a queen.
"If there's so much I must be, can I still just be me? The way I am? Can I trust in my own heart, or am I just one part of some big plan?"
As a teenager she falls in love with Kovu, the youngest son of her father's worst enemy. Their love story bases on Romeo and Juliet without the tragic ending and sexual aspect.
Some find Kiara annoying because she's so whiny--I found her so too--but basically I really like her. She offers new blood to the royal bloodline of Pridelands by being a girl and not having an eager eye on the throne.
And I don't see her as an airhead. She comes off as quite smart and feet-on-ground girl to me with her knowing what she wants, determination to go for it and being the wiser one when Kovu suggests running away. And then in the end she's the one who ends the war. And she got the meaning of Upendi immediately. In all honesty I don't understand where the airhead accusations source from. If anyone was an airhead, it was Kovu. But then in his defense he never had a real childhood and normal love and when he witnessed the love between Simba and Kiara, he naturally got confused and started to question everything which can easily come to seem the wrong way.
The only accusation I can recall that I agree with is that Kiara is a so-called mary-sue. She kinda is, but I think she's still more hated and underappreciated than she'd deserve.

Kiara is my all time favourite character in Simba's Pride. I have never considered her to have any negative aspects, aside from her attitude and stubbornness of course, but that is expected from a teenager anyway. Sometimes I act a lot like her and that is possibly why I like her so much. There is not a single thing I dislike about Kiara, aside from her grandmother who scares me an awful lot but I have never been too sure why that is. I think she just looks oddly creepy compared to all of the other lionesses and it bothers me a little.
I adopted a baby bunny who was an orange german lop, which in turn reminded me of my favourite character in Simba's Pride and so I named her Kiara. I recently lost her over complications no one could treat and have since been feeling a deeper love for the disney character. There isn't anything I can think of that my bunny didn't have in common with this lioness, the mood swings, the stubborness and the need to be who she wanted to be without limitations was always there.

Well, they say blind love is true, but I rather agree with the idea that true love sees more than reguar love and because of that true love is willing to ignore/doesn't mind the negative aspects of the thing loved. My point is there is no way Kiara doesn't have negative sides as a character, because no one and nothing is perfect. Although you come off as if you are still in love with the character because you say you don't even see any negativeness. ^^ PS. The pet naming...I had similar experience with my former pet rat. I named him after one of my favourite The Lord fo the Rings charactcters, Pippin Took, and he turned out to be so much like him in personality, even though I had no idea as he was just a baby at the naming. x) PS2. I love your signature picture. Absolutely beautiful!

I do agree with you there. True love sees absolutely everything there could be to see, it misses nothing at all. I will agree that there are some negative aspects to Kiara, yet I don't mind them as I adore her too much. Kiara was always my favourite =] prior to the release of Simba's Pride, my favourite was Scar. Pippin is an adorable name for a pet rat and I like that you named him after that character. Pippin and Legolas were the ones I like the most in those movies, though I haven't seen any of them in a long while. It's crazy how much our pets remind us of certain characters and such. At the time I had no idea that my bunny would turn out to be so similar and I miss her a lot. I can no longer watch Simba's Pride because whenever Kiara appears, I'm reminded of my lost love Thank you! I'm glad you like it. I spent a while browsing for something suitable and there wasn't much of a choice, but that one is nice.

I love your thoughts on Kiara. I feel the same way about her. I think the airhead thing comes mostly from her hunting skills being... not top notch? Lol. I love Kiara. She's smart, strong, and a very happy go lucky lioness. But Nala will ALWAYS be my favorite lioness B) Lol
My main reason I replied to this though was to correct you on one thing you said...
"As a teenager she falls in love with Kovu, the youngest son of her father's worst enemy."
Kovu wasn't Scars son. It was stated twice in the movie by Nuka and Kovu himself. (:
Nuka; Scar wasn't even his father, he just took him in. Kovu (Adult); He wasn't my father but he was still, part of me.
Sorry if I'm sounding all 'know-it-all'. People mistaking Kovu for Scars son is a pet peeve Lol

I apologize. I see that you said on Kovus' Character page that he wasn't Scars son. (:

I say that also in The Lion King F.A.Q topic. And hence, in this topic I didn't say Scar, I just said Simba's worst enemy. Which in this case means Zira as she's the worst enemy alive that Simba has. Interesting point for that airhead matter. It's possible, certainly that that is the main reason. I guess people forget that she did not go all loud "au ouch ow" while actually hunting. She just didn't feel the ground under her paws so it made sound. She was unnecessarely loud only when she was practicing with Kovu. I actually think that's a contradiction because if and when she was capable of much better performance in a real situation before that practice session, why not in that practice session? What was she walking on thorns or something? If so, why choose such a path. I think the film makers were aiming at a comical scene without a second of thought if it contradicts the character...

Ill be quite frank, people dont give Kiara much credit. First off lets not forget, shes the child of Simba, granddaughter of the great Mufasa and Honorable Sarabi. She has a playful aspect to herself and is more interested in being her self rather then being something shes not. After awhile she realizes that being queen is apart of who she is and she molds it all into herself. Though she bugs me a bit. I dont think shes dumb or an air head, maybe a tad bratty but that will go away with age. As for Kovu, he never had actual nor a child hood. We see this multiple times within the movie. Lastly Kovu never had a father or real mother in his life and thats why he seems so "air headedish" if you will because the kid never actually had a stable home. Thats why after a day or two his motives switch when hes staying at the pridelands. These two are put down alot but I perosnally think they are good charcters who when older, if they ever make a offical part 3, will be excellent rulers. I agree with your post 100 % just to let you know.

You can always start a topic at The Lion King 2 board if you feel like discussing it in its very own topic instead of in the general Simba topic.
