Timon and Pumbaa--the meerkat and warthog who were added for comic releaf into the first film, but somehow became highly popular and are now everywhere, even gained their own spinn-off tv-show.
Their famous motto, "Hakuna Matata", means "no worries". It's their problem-free philosophy which they taught Simba as they took him in. They saved Simba's life and became his best friends alongside Nala. Later on they abandoned Hakuna Matata to fight alongside Simba and to watch over Simba's adventurous daughter, Kiara.
How do you feel about these fellows? Are you one of those who find them hilarious, or just funny, or perhaps over-rated?
Sometimes I wonder what the story would've become without them. Probably too depressing to fully entertain even a drama lover such as myself, but... I still wonder how else Simba could've been saved. If they could've come up with something that didn't get so over-rated in the end. Is it because of how dark the story would be without them, why they're making such a big deal about them in the franchise? Are they for some reason trying to turn people's attention away from the true nature and heart of the original story? Because they are not that funny! o.O I mean, so funny that they'd deserve practically more space in the franchise than any other character, even Simba himself.
Don't get me wrong, I like them. But mostly in the first film, there and there in the second. The 1½ I wish never happened. I hate it how I can't help but be generally amused with the stupid fart joke while I still genuinely hate it for it ruins/disgraces the most majestic and one of the most touching moment of the original story.
